MP Peter Salasya claims armed men ambushed his convoy, shot at car after Isiolo rally

The MP, who recently declared his intention to run for president in 2027, questioned the motive behind the ambush, saying he has steered clear of attacking the government in his rallies.
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya claims he was ambushed by heavily armed men along the Isiolo-Nanyuki road, who identified themselves as DCI officers, shot at his vehicle, and forcibly took him to an unknown location.
The attack happened on Friday, shortly after he addressed a rally in Isiolo as part of his countrywide tour to popularise his 2027 presidential bid.

According to Salasya, the assailants, masked and wielding at least 15 AK-47 rifles, cornered his convoy and opened fire. He said the attackers disarmed his bodyguards and pursued his car, forcing him to flee into a nearby bush with the help of one of his security officers.
“I have just been attacked by unknown individuals claiming to be DCI officers. These people, heavily armed and moving with force, ambushed my convoy, disarmed my security team, confiscated their firearms, and pursued my vehicle. One of my security personnel managed to escape and helped me flee into a nearby bush for safety,” Salasya said.
“They shot at my vehicle, aiming directly at me. Shortly after, they emerged with at least 15 AK-47 rifles and confronted me with a chilling message—one I cannot disclose at this time for security reasons,” he added.
The MP, who recently declared his intention to run for president in 2027, questioned the motive behind the ambush, saying he has steered clear of attacking the government in his rallies.
“What I will say is this: I have not been mentioning the government in my rallies, and I have stayed true to my call for peace and progress,” he stated.
Earlier this month, Salasya kicked off a nationwide tour to rally support for his presidential bid under a new political movement.
On May 1, he began the campaign in Busia County, vowing to break away from traditional politics rooted in tribal alliances and money.
“Fellow Kenyans, after deep reflection, wide consultations, and careful consideration of the state of our nation, I, Peter Kalerwa Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East Constituency, hereby declare my intention to vie for the presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the 2027 General Election,” he said during the announcement.
He said the decision was driven by a desire to offer bold and transformative leadership focused on economic empowerment, industrial growth, and social justice.
