Magarini mini-poll candidate quits DCP, slams leadership failures and grassroots neglect

Although he expressed respect for the party leader’s “unwavering commitment” to DCP’s ideals, Ngumbao accused the party's national elections board and the secretary-general of failing to uphold inclusivity and accountability

A Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate for the upcoming Magarini Constituency by-election has resigned, citing internal wrangles, weak leadership, and lack of support from senior officials ahead of the upcoming political season.

Furaha Chengo Ngumbao, who also sat on the party’s national executive committee (NEC), announced his resignation in a letter dated September 29, 2025, addressed to the party’s secretary-general in Nairobi.

Ngumbao said he could no longer remain in a leadership structure where his efforts were “undermined by systemic inefficiencies” and where aspirants were “left without direction or support.”

“Persistent lack of communication, disregard for grassroots concerns, and failure to provide clear guidance have created an environment where aspirants like myself are forced to navigate critical issues alone,” he stated.

Although he expressed respect for the party leader’s “unwavering commitment” to DCP’s ideals, Ngumbao accused the party's national elections board (NEB) and the secretary-general of failing to uphold inclusivity and accountability, which he said had weakened the party’s effectiveness.

He further criticised opaque decision-making, delayed feedback, and the exclusion of NEC members from key deliberations—issues he believes have eroded confidence in the party’s leadership.

Ngumbao warned that unless DCP undertakes urgent reforms to enhance transparency and grassroots engagement, it risks losing the trust of supporters and alienating voters.

His resignation takes immediate effect and was copied to the party chairperson and the Registrar of Political Parties.

By the time of going to press, the DCP leadership had not issued an official response.
