ODM has appointed Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo as county patron, replacing Senator Godfrey Osotsi in a leadership shake-up amid growing divisions over the party’s future political direction.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has appointed Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo as the party’s patron in Vihiga County, replacing Senator Godfrey Osotsi in the latest round of leadership changes.
The appointment was announced during a county delegates’ meeting, where party officials said the reshuffle was aimed at strengthening ODM by introducing new leadership and removing officials who were no longer advancing the party’s agenda.
Officials said the changes targeted leaders who were "not championing the party's interests" as ODM prepares for the next electoral cycle.

Welcoming his appointment, Ottichilo said the changes were necessary to restore unity within the party following months of internal divisions.
"In the past few months, the party has not had a proper direction. There have been divisions among the leadership," Ottichilo said.
"It is good that ODM is putting in place a leadership that will move the party forward."

The appointment adds to recent setbacks for Osotsi, who was removed as ODM deputy party leader during the party’s Special Delegates Convention after delegates declined to endorse his candidature. The convention retained other senior officials while ushering in a wider leadership reorganisation.
The latest changes come amid growing divisions within ODM over the party’s relationship with President William Ruto’s administration.
Osotsi is closely associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, which has maintained that ODM should preserve its identity as an independent political party despite its cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The faction has repeatedly criticised the government over the rising cost of living, governance, accountability and public policy implementation, arguing that ODM must continue playing its oversight role.
Its position has increasingly placed it at odds with another faction led by ODM chairperson Gladys Wanga, Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, who have openly backed closer cooperation with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
ODM and UDA are currently holding talks to formalise a pre-election coalition ahead of the 2027 General Election, building on the broad-based government arrangement that has seen the two parties work together on key legislative and governance issues.
The Vihiga reshuffle is the latest in a series of leadership changes affecting figures associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement.
