Speaking after the declaration of the Ol Kalou by-election results, Gachagua said DCP was preparing for the next phase of its growth by strengthening its structures and expanding its presence across the country.

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has announced plans to field candidates for governor, senator, Member of Parliament and County Assembly seats across all 47 counties in the 2027 General Election, following the party’s victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
Gachagua said the win by Sammy Waweru Kamau, who became DCP’s first elected Member of Parliament, marked a major milestone for the one-year-old party as it seeks to establish itself as a national political outfit.
Speaking after the declaration of the Ol Kalou by-election results, Gachagua said DCP was preparing for the next phase of its growth by strengthening its structures and expanding its presence across the country.
“As a party, DCP is gearing up for the days to come. History has shown us that Mount Kenya's political direction is determined in a by-election preceding the General Election,” Gachagua said.
He said previous political developments in the region had demonstrated the influence of by-election outcomes ahead of general elections, citing the 2012 Kangema parliamentary by-election won by The National Alliance (TNA) and the 2021 Rurii Ward and Kiambaa parliamentary by-elections, where the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) recorded victories.
Gachagua said DCP intends to use the Ol Kalou victory as a foundation for nationwide expansion as it seeks to compete for elective seats at both national and county levels.
The party leader said DCP’s strategic plan includes securing at least 20 governors, 20 senators, 145 Members of the National Assembly and 720 Members of County Assembly in the 2027 General Election.
“We are a national party, and we intend to field candidates in all 47 counties for gubernatorial, senatorial, National Assembly and County Assembly seats,” he said.
DCP’s entry into the National Assembly came after Sammy Douglas Waweru Kamau was declared the winner of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, where he secured 35,440 votes.
Kamau defeated United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah, who garnered 5,450 votes.
The victory added to DCP’s growing list of elected representatives, including Members of the County Assembly who won seats in previous by-elections.
They include David Wanyoike Warui, who won Kariobangi North Ward in Nairobi County, Douglas Makonde, who clinched Narok Town Ward in Narok County, and Aduda Okwiri, who secured Kisa East Ward in Kakamega County.
