In a statement, Gachagua congratulated Ngotho, saying the outcome reflected the confidence voters had placed in the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has hailed Sammy Kamau Ngotho’s election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ol Kalou Constituency, describing the victory as a historic milestone that marks the party’s first entry into the National Assembly.
Ngotho was declared the winner of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election held on July 16, 2026, after securing 35,440 votes. His closest challenger, Samuel Muchina Nyagah of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), garnered 5,450 votes.
In a statement, Gachagua congratulated Ngotho, saying the outcome reflected the confidence voters had placed in DCP.
“Congratulations, Sammy Kamau Waweru, on your historic election as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency. You have won by a resounding margin, reflecting the unmistakable voice of the people,” Gachagua said.
The former Deputy President thanked voters for handing DCP its first representative in the National Assembly, describing the win as a major achievement for the party.
“To the great people of Ol Kalou, thank you for giving our party, DCP, its first Member of the National Assembly,” he said.
Gachagua also praised the party’s campaign team, including Nyandarua Senator John Methu and Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, alongside supporters and volunteers who participated in the three-month campaign.
“I salute our campaign leaders… for their outstanding leadership and guidance throughout the three-month campaign,” he said.
He further claimed that voters remained firm despite alleged intimidation during the election period, while urging Kamau to serve residents diligently and represent their interests.
“Thank you a million times for guarding your vote and for standing firm despite the actions of rogue police officers armed with guns and tear gas,” he said.
The by-election recorded a voter turnout of 57 per cent, with 41,656 votes cast from 73,480 registered voters.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) thanked voters, candidates, political parties, election officials, observers, security agencies, the media and other stakeholders for supporting a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
