Instagram finally lets users reorder 'carousel posts' after publishing

Until now, once a carousel post went live, the sequence of images and videos was permanent.

Meta’s Instagram has introduced a long‑awaited feature: users can now rearrange the photos and videos in a carousel post even after it’s been published.

This update ends years of frustration for creators, brands, and everyday users who previously had no way to fix the order of their carousel content.
Until now, once a carousel post went live, the sequence of images and videos was permanent.
If you uploaded slides in the wrong order, your only options were to live with it or delete and repost the carousel, losing all likes, comments, and engagement in the process.
How the feature works

With this update, Instagram users can now:
Drag and drop images or videos inside a published carousel to change their order.
Edit the sequence at any time after posting, without deleting the post.
Optimise storytelling by adjusting which slide appears first or fixing mistakes after publishing.
Step‑by‑step instructions:
1. Open your profile and select the carousel post.
2. Tap the “…” menu in the top‑right corner.
3. Choose 'Edit'. Long‑press any photo or video and drag it to your desired position.
4. Save your changes.
Limitations
While this update is a major improvement, some restrictions remain:
You cannot add new photos or videos to an existing carousel. For additional media, you will still need to create a new post.
Carousel posts are among Instagram’s most engaging formats, allowing creators to tell stories, showcase products, or share multiple visuals in one swipeable post.
By letting users reorder slides after publishing, Instagram now gives creators more control over engagement and storytelling.
The feature is rolling out gradually, so not all users may see it immediately.
If it is not yet available, updating your Instagram app and checking back in a few days should enable it.
