Section of Mombasa Road to be closed again for bridge beam installation on June 21

KeNHA urged motorists to follow the approved traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed along the affected stretch to guide traffic flow.

A section of Mombasa Road will be closed again from the night of June 20 to the morning of June 21 to allow the installation of footbridge beams at the Airtel footbridge, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced.
In a notice, the Authority said the closure is part of ongoing works to improve safety along the busy highway corridor.
“KeNHA wishes to notify the public that a section of the Nairobi-bound carriageway of Mombasa Road (A8), between Airtel Complex and General Motors, will be temporarily closed to traffic from Saturday, June 20, 2026, to Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 9.00 pm to 10.00 am," reads the notice.
“This is to allow for the installation of the fabricated footbridge beams of the Airtel footbridge across the Nairobi-bound carriageway.”

“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site," it said.

The announcement comes days after KeNHA closed the same section for 24 hours from June 20 to June 21 to install footbridge beams at the Airtel footbridge.

During the closure period, motorists were diverted through the Airtel Complex interchange and connecting loop roads to bypass the construction zone before rejoining Mombasa Road beyond the affected section.

Drivers heading from Nairobi’s CBD towards Mombasa Road were diverted near the Shell area onto Likoni Road, proceeded through Enterprise Road, and rejoined the A8 Highway at General Motors towards Cabanas.

Motorists heading into the CBD via the Nairobi Expressway encountered a closure at the Cabanas section and were redirected onto the Mombasa Road carriageway, continuing their journey into the city centre under the guidance of traffic marshals.

Drivers approaching from the Mombasa-bound direction were urged to use the Ole Sereni interchange to bypass the affected section before reconnecting to their intended routes.

KeNHA urged all road users to strictly follow the traffic management plan during both closure periods and to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety along the corridor.
