Gachagua appeals to Ruto to stop senior officials from humiliating him

By |

"Don’t allow the criminal justice system to intimidate your deputy the way you were intimidated. Be a good man, be a good Christian, Keep that promise.”

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has now urged his boss, President William Ruto to stop the ongoing attacks against him by senior government officials and members of the ruling party UDA.

Gachagua urged the president to keep his commitment to himself, his family, and Kenyans to ensure that his deputy is never demeaned, embarrassed, persecuted, or disrespected and will be allowed to work and work well.

“That happened and I am grateful to him because he did not allow anyone to disrespect me. But the second year, I must tell you it is happening, Cabinet ministers have been abusing the Deputy President just the way it was happening during the time of President Uhuru Kenyatta... People disrespected him, people were intimidated and President Ruto made a commitment to the people of Kenya that if he is made President, he would not allow his deputy to be disrespected,” said Gachagua.

Gachagua claimed that, when the President approached him to be his running mate, his family asked whether as DP, he would suffer the same fate that befell the President when he was serving as DP during former President Uhuru’s second term in office.

“He gave us as a family a very firm commitment that that will not happen. I am asking President Ruto, my boss, please keep your promise to the people of Kenya. Stop those people, ministers who are abusing the deputy president. Don’t allow the criminal justice system to intimidate your deputy the way you were intimidated. Be a good man, be a good Christian, Keep that promise,” implored Gachagua.

Revealing the depth of his current woes which he says have been fanned by powerful people around the President, Gachagua added that he has the mettle required to withstand any tribulations that befall him.

“I take it in stride myself because I am also an elder and a well-trained officer. I was trained in paramilitary. I have a tremendous capacity for perseverance and endurance, to take a lot of flak, and disquiet, and to take it in good tidings because I am very mature when it comes to my approach to life. Many petty things I have ignored them because I do not want to become petty,” he said.

The DP recalled a moment when, during King Charles's visit to the State House, a prominent blogger released a photoshop image of him locked in a window prompting criticism from Kenyans, yet he was on a work trip abroad.

“He circulated it on his blog until Kenyans complained and he (blogger) brought it down. Just to demean the deputy president, and these are people who work for the president,” said the DP.
