The Pyrethrum Processing Company, located in Nakuru, is a state-owned enterprise responsible for processing and marketing pyrethrum products.
Pyrethrum is a natural insecticide made from chrysanthemum flowers. Kenya was once the global leader in pyrethrum production, accounting for over 70 per cent of the world’s supply during the 1980s and 1990s.
However, the industry has faced challenges in recent years, including reduced production and loss of market share. Samboja’s appointment is viewed as part of efforts to revive the sector and restore Kenya’s standing in the global pyrethrum market.
In the same notice, the President appointed John Mwangi Karondo as a member of the State Corporations Advisory Committee for a three-year term starting May 23, 2025.
This appointment came with the revocation of Joseph Kimani Machiri’s role on the committee.
Additionally, retired Lieutenant General Adan K. Mulata was appointed Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Service Council, also for a three-year term beginning May 23.
