During a bilateral meeting on Monday between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the United Kingdom announced a significant investment in the Federal Republic of Somalia. Sunak, the first British Prime Minister of color, underscored London's strong commitment to supporting substantial projects in Somalia, aiming to boost the country's economy and create employment opportunities for locals. The discussions highlighted the historical ties between Britain and Somalia.

Addressing critical concerns such as food security, President Mohamud reiterated Somalia's dedicated efforts to address the challenges posed by ongoing floods and prolonged drought. Somalia is currently grappling with devastating floods that have claimed over 50 lives and displaced hundreds of thousands.

To confront these difficulties, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak disclosed that his government would begin financing projects related to development, economic infrastructure, and agriculture in Somalia, allocating a hundred million dollars for these specific efforts, as reported by state media. He emphasized the importance of supporting Somalia in overcoming its current challenges.

President Hassan praised the UK government for its assistance in Somalia's fight against Al Shabaab, stating, "Since June 2022, the Somali National Army has recovered over 70 towns and villages from the grasp of Al Shabaab." In his address focusing on stability, President Hassan Sheikh highlighted Somalia's potential role in global initiatives aimed at eliminating hunger and ensuring long-term food sustainability.
