The Sudanese Cabinet dismissed the country's Foreign Minister Ali al-Sadiq on Wednesday and assigned Deputy Minister Hussein Awad to his duties, according to the state broadcaster.

The Cabinet issued the decision without specifying the reasons behind the dismissal.

Sudan's Sovereign Council Chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan appointed al-Sadiq the foreign minister on January 21, 2022, as part of a Cabinet with 15 ministers, following his exceptional measures on October 25, 2021, which included the dissolution of the Sovereignty Council and the Transitional Government and the declaration of a state of emergency.

Hussein was appointed deputy foreign minister in December and previously served as ambassador to Zambia and Uganda.

The ousted foreign minister played a significant role in promoting General Abdel Fattah's image internationally as the crisis entered its second year.

Sources in Sudan informed The Eastleigh Voice that a new nominee for foreign minister will be proposed, but no decision has been made yet.

Al-Sadiq, had recalled the Sudanese ambassador in Kenya in January over a lavish reception for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander when he visited Nairobi to meet President William Ruto.

His removal coincides with an International Humanitarian Conference held in Paris this week, where countries pledged over $2 billion in aid for Sudan after two years of war.

Kenya committed Sh132 million for reconstruction and mediation efforts.

The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in a war since last April that has resulted in 15,000 deaths and more than 8 million displaced and refugees, according to the UN.
