KeRRA closes sections of Ngong-Suswa Road for major repairs, citing safety concerns
The first closure affects the section from Ngere Road junction to KIBHT junction, which will be shut to all traffic until May 20, 2025.
The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has temporarily closed two key sections of the Ngong-Suswa Road to facilitate urgent maintenance work, warning motorists to expect significant traffic disruptions over the coming weeks.
In a public notice released on Wednesday, the roads authority stated that the works are part of a major construction project being carried out under constrained site conditions, making temporary diversions unsafe, especially during wet weather.

KeRRA indicated that the affected stretch of road, between Matonyok and the Kenya Institute of Building and Highway Technology (KIBHT) junction, will be closed in two phases over different durations.
The first closure affects the section from Ngere Road junction to KIBHT junction, which will be shut to all traffic until May 20, 2025.
The second segment, running from Matonyok to Ngere Road junction, will remain inaccessible for a longer period until June 11, 2025.
According to KeRRA, the decision to close these sections was taken to allow the contractor to carry out critical construction activities more efficiently and safely.
The authority explained that the current alternative routes previously set up to manage traffic flow during construction have proven inadequate, raising safety concerns for both motorists and construction workers.
“This closure is necessary to allow the Contractor to carry out major construction Works under constrained site conditions. The temporary diversions previously in place have proven inadequate and pose safety concerns, especially during rainy conditions.”KeRRA noted.
Motorists have been urged to use the alternative route through Lemiso Road, Maragara Road, and Kibiko, as detailed in an official sketch shared by KeRRA. Traffic marshals and police officers will be deployed along the route to assist with navigation and ensure safety.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your cooperation as we work to improve this vital infrastructure,” the authority said.
