Shujaa drawn in tough Hong Kong 7s pool after struggles in Vancouver

The team struggled in Vancouver, losing all their matches from the pool stage to the playoffs, ultimately finishing 12th in the tournament standings.

After a run of tough luck at the fourth leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Vancouver, Canada, Kenya’s national sevens team, Shujaa, has been drawn into yet another challenging group for the Hong Kong Sevens, scheduled for 28th to 30th March.

They will face Spain, Great Britain, and France.

The team struggled in Vancouver, losing all their matches from the pool stage to the playoffs, ultimately finishing 12th in the tournament standings.

Despite these setbacks, Shujaa remains in 9th place overall with 15 points.

Tough challenge and familiar opponents

Shujaa faces another tough test in Hong Kong as they come up against familiar opponents from the Vancouver Sevens.

Spain: Spain’s men’s rugby sevens team had an outstanding performance in Vancouver, securing the bronze medal.

Kenya will kick off their Hong Kong 7s campaign against Spain, who currently sit second in the overall standings with 64 points more than double Shujaa’s 15 points.

Great Britain: Kenya has already faced Great Britain in the Vancouver Sevens, where they suffered a heavy 28-10 defeat.

The British side showcased sharp attacking play and a solid defence, keeping Kenya at bay in the match.

France: Shujaa also faced France in Vancouver, where they initially showed promise by scoring an early try. However, they struggled to maintain their lead and were eventually overpowered, losing 33-7.

Kenya will need to regroup and improve their performance if they are to make an impact in Hong Kong and climb the overall standings.
