The Kenya Lionesses continued their impressive run in the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup with a convincing 28-5 win over Madagascar on Saturday afternoon. In a game that showcased both flair and discipline, the Lionesses proved too strong for their opponents, building on their previous dominant performance where they had beaten Madagascar 63-19.
Kenya got off to a flying start with Phoebe Akinyi opening the scores early in the first half. Her try was successfully converted, giving the Lionesses a 7-0 lead. However, the celebrations were cut short when Akinyi was forced off the pitch for a Head Injury Assessment (HIA), leaving a gap in the Kenyan setup. But the Lionesses were undeterred.

Faith Livoi soon stepped up with a brilliant effort at the corner, touching down for Kenya’s second try. The conversion was missed, but the lead was extended to 12-0. Madagascar responded just before the break with an unconverted try of their own, narrowing the gap to 12-5 at halftime.
In the second half, Grace Okulu took control of the game. Her tactical awareness and calm under pressure paid off when she converted a penalty to add three more points. She followed this up with a beautifully taken drop goal, stretching the Lionesses’ advantage to 18-5 and keeping Madagascar at bay.
The Kenyan dominance continued as Stellah Wafula powered over the Madagascars defence to score another try. Although the conversion went wide, the scoreboard now read 23-5, and the Lionesses were in firm control. The win keeps Kenya in strong contention in the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup as they now shift focus to a high-stakes encounter against South Africa on June 11.
