Despite their setback against China, the Kenya Lionesses look to bounce back against Papua New Guinea in the next match

The Kenya Women's National Rugby team, the Kenya Lionesses, faced a tough start  in Montevideo, Uruguay, suffering a 12-0 defeat at the hands of China in the opening match of the Challenger Series.

The Lionesses entered the match seeking redemption after a narrow loss to China in the Dubai Challenger Series, where they fell short in the finals. However, their efforts to overturn the previous defeat were thwarted by a resilient Chinese side.

From the outset, the match was marred by handling errors, with the Lionesses struggling to find their rhythm against a determined Chinese defense. Despite moments of promise, particularly towards the end of the first half, Kenya failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities, allowing China to maintain control.

As the match progressed, China's dominance became increasingly evident, with the Lionesses unable to mount a significant comeback. A converted try by China's captain further dashed Kenya's hopes, sealing the victory for the opposition.

The defeat serves as a wake-up call for the Lionesses, who will be eager to regroup and showcase their true potential in upcoming matches. With Papua New Guinea next on the agenda from 11:26PM, Kenya has an opportunity to redeem themselves and reignite their Challenger Series campaign.

Shujaa on the other end had a bright start as they edged Portugal 19-12 and will face Georgia at 1:48AM.
