Ruto's youngest pick: Eric Muuga for water, sanitation, and irrigation CS

By |

Until his nomination, he served as a project engineer at Kilifi Mariakani Water and Sewerage Company Limited in Kilifi County, where he played a key role in designing and reviewing water sanitation works.

At just 32 years old, Eric Muriithi Muuga is on the brink of becoming one of Kenya's youngest ministers. On Friday, President William Ruto named Muuga one of the five new Cabinet Secretary nominees, selecting him for the role of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation CS.

Muuga's nomination marks a significant step as he prepares to join President Ruto's cabinet as a fresh face on the political scene. With an engineering background spanning eight years, Muuga has primarily worked outside the political establishment.

Until his nomination, he served as a project engineer at Kilifi Mariakani Water and Sewerage Company Limited in Kilifi County, where he played a key role in designing and reviewing water sanitation works.

Muuga's expertise extends to the operation and management of engineering projects, including water hydraulic modelling, water network design, water treatment plants, and water structures. His educational credentials are equally impressive.

He holds a Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources from the University of Nairobi and graduated at the top of his undergraduate class with a degree in Civil Engineering from the same institution.

Muuga is also an alumnus of Lenana School, and he attended primary school in Maua, Meru County. Before beginning his engineering career, he briefly taught at Kirindine Secondary School in Meru. His diverse background and technical expertise position him as a promising candidate for the Cabinet Secretary role, promising to bring a new perspective to Kenya's water and sanitation sector.
