According to eyewitnesses, a rowdy group emerged from behind the tent designated for senior guests, where Gachagua was seated alongside political allies, including Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa.
Videos shared on social media platform X captured the moment tensions escalated. The group began shaking the tent, sending plastic chairs flying as panicked attendees scrambled to safety.
"We were just about to invite Gachagua to speak when everything turned chaotic. People were terrified," said one mourner who requested anonymity.
Senator Karungo has termed the events as an assassination attempt and clarified that Gachagua was safe.

Property damage was significant, with the rear window of Gachagua’s black Toyota Land Cruiser shattered. Several mourners sustained injuries during the commotion. "It’s saddening to see a solemn event like this turned into a battlefield," another attendee said.
The exact motive behind the disruption remains unclear, though speculation points to political rivalries. Police have yet to release an official statement, and investigations are ongoing.
