Blast reported near Somalia's presidential palace, allegedly targeting President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's convoy

Reports indicate that a convoy carrying Somali President Hassan Sheikh was passing through the area at the time.

A blast was reported near Somalia's presidential palace, allegedly targeting the convoy of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

According to Hussein Sheikh Ali, National Security Adviser of Somalia, the President "is safe and currently touring the country to observe the important work being carried out by the CXD in various regions. He is receiving full support from the people in these areas. This nation will not be swayed by falsehoods, exaggerated claims, or deceitful tactics."

According to a statement by the Ministry of Information, culture and Tourism, the attack targeted the convoy while President Hassan Sheikh was en route to join Somalia troops on the frontlines in Hirshabelle for Iftar.

The attack occurred near the Eel-Gaab junction, a short distance from the presidential palace.

"The attack was thwarted, and the President safely arrived at his destination as planned," the statement read in part.

President Hassan was on his way to the airport for a flight to Adan Yabal district in Middle Shabelle region of Hirshabelle State to boost the morale of troops fighting the militants.

The attack that happened at 10:32 local time claimed the life of Somali journalist Mohamed Abukar Dabaashe and left several civilians with injuries.

"Our fight against these extremists will not waver," the ministry further added.
