Kenya, who missed the third series in 2023, returned last season with an impressive fifth-place finish. The Lionesses amassed 38 points across the three circuits, placing second in Dubai, eighth in Montevideo, and fourth in Krakow.
Poland, last season’s fourth-place finishers, were seen as a strong challenge heading into the warm-up clash, adding significance to the Lionesses’ win. Both teams aim to emulate China, who dominated last season's Challenger Series and secured promotion to the World Rugby Sevens Series.
This year’s 12-team Challenger Series also features Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Mexico, Samoa, South Africa, Thailand, and Uganda. Apart from Poland, Kenya will face stiff competition from Argentina and Belgium, who placed second and third last season, while South Africa will be determined to bounce back after their demotion from the World Rugby Sevens Series.
Kenya Lionesses’ victory on Saturday underscores their intent to challenge for the top spot in this year’s series and realise their dream of competing in the elite World Rugby Sevens Series.
