Rising Stars U20 draw defending champions Senegal, debutants Sierra Leone, and Zambia in 2025 AFCON U20

Harambee Stars U20 face a tough challenge in the 2025 AFCON U20, as they are drawn in a group with defending champions Senegal, debutants Sierra Leone, and 2017 winners Zambia. The tournament will be held in Ivory Coast from April 26 to May 18, 2025, with Kenya qualifying after a strong performance in the 2024 CECAFA U20 Championship.

Harambee Stars U20 have been drawn alongside defending champions Senegal, debutants Sierra Leone, and 2017 AFCON U20 winners Zambia in the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON U20) draw. The draw, which took place on Thursday at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, also included the draws for the inaugural CAF Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, the second-stage qualifiers for CHAN 2025, and the 2025 AFCON U-17.

Kenya was placed in Group C of the 13-team tournament, scheduled to be held in Ivory Coast from April 26 to May 18, 2025. The group features a competitive mix of teams with a rich history in African youth football.

Kenya qualified for the tournament after finishing second in the 2024 CECAFA U20 Championship, held in Tanzania in October 2024. Tanzania, the tournament’s winners, earned their place in Group A, alongside hosts Ivory Coast, three-time runners-up Ghana, DR Congo, and a yet-to-be-determined team from the Central Zone (UNIFFAC) region. Following the suspension of Congo by FIFA on February 6, 2025, due to government interference, Congo's place will be filled by another team from the region.

Group B, often dubbed the "Group of Death," will feature seven-time champions Nigeria, four-time winners Egypt, 1997 champions Morocco, and 1997 runners-up South Africa.

The top two teams from each group will automatically advance to the quarterfinals, where they will be joined by the two best third-placed teams.

CAF will announce the tournament’s fixtures at a later date.
