Kenya Morans forfeit Tunisia match due to logistical challenges

Kenya Morans' hopes of qualifying for the 2025 AfroBasket took a hit after they forfeited their match against Tunisia due to logistical challenges. The team failed to arrive in Tripoli on time, handing Tunisia a walkover victory. With two crucial games remaining against Angola and Guinea, Morans must now regroup to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Kenya Morans forfeited their 2025 AfroBasket qualifier against Tunisia after failing to arrive in Tripoli, Libya, on time for the Group E fixture due to logistical challenges.

The match was scheduled for 4 pm, but the team had yet to leave Kenya by kick-off time.

In a statement, the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) attributed the forfeiture to "unforeseen logistical challenges, including a lack of connecting flights into Tripoli."

KBF expressed gratitude to the Kenyan government and the Ministry of Sports for securing a chartered flight that will ensure Morans arrive in Libya in time for their second match against Angola, set for 4 pm on Saturday.

Morans will conclude their qualifiers against Guinea on Sunday at 1 pm. While regretting the forfeiture against Tunisia, KBF stated that the team is focused on making amends in the remaining fixtures.

Kenya sit third in Group E, level on five points with Guinea, who edged Angola 66-65 earlier today. Tunisia lead the group with eight points after being awarded a 20-0 walkover win against Kenya, while Angola are second with six points.

Morans must finish at least third to secure one of the 15 qualification slots for the 2025 AfroBasket, set to take place in Angola in August.

Kenya have competed at AfroBasket four times—1985, 1989, 1993 (as hosts), and 2021. Morans have never qualified for back-to-back tournaments and will make history if they recover from today’s setback.
