Benni McCarthy arrives in Kenya ahead of Harambee Stars unveiling

Benni McCarthy has arrived in Kenya ahead of his official unveiling as the new Harambee Stars head coach, putting an end to speculation about his appointment.

Incoming Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has arrived in Kenya ahead of his official unveiling next week, putting an end to speculation surrounding his appointment.

While the full composition of his technical bench remains undisclosed, it is understood that McCarthy will bring an assistant coach and a goalkeeper trainer, with a second local assistant also set to join the setup.

The Harambee Stars coaching role became vacant following the resignation of Turkish tactician Engin Firat. Experienced local coach Francis Kimanzi has been holding the position on an interim basis but is now expected to be named Football Kenya Federation's Technical Director.

McCarthy, a former South African international, holds the distinction of being his country's all-time top scorer with 31 goals. The 46-year-old also remains the only South African to have won the UEFA Champions League, lifting the trophy with Porto in 2004 under José Mourinho.

Most recently, McCarthy worked as a first-team coach at Manchester United, where he was credited with refining the attacking prowess of key players. His prior managerial experience includes a stint as head coach at AmaZulu in the South African Premier Division, where he guided the club to a historic second-place league finish in 2020–21.

His arrival signals a new era for Kenyan football, with fans eager to see whether his experience at the highest levels of the game can translate into success for Harambee Stars. All eyes will now be on his unveiling next week, where he is expected to outline his vision for the team.
