KDF, KCB, Kenya Pipeline shine in Kenya Volleyball Federation women’s league fourth leg

With nine wins and 25 points, Pipeline remains unbeaten at the top of the standings.

The fourth leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Women’s National League concluded on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium outdoor court, with Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), KCB Bank, and Kenya Pipeline delivering dominant performances to strengthen their positions in the league standings.

KDF showcased their strength, defeating Nairobi Prisons 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-13) in a thrilling contest. While KDF controlled the match, the spotlight fell on 16-year-old opposite hitter Milika Akinyi, a Form Three student at Aluor Mixed Secondary School in Homa Bay County. Her powerful spikes electrified the crowd, proving to be the game-changer.

Coached by former Kenyan international Jackline Baraza, KDF wrapped up the weekend with three victories against Young Spykers, Kenya Army, and Nairobi Prisons, with their only loss coming against Kenya Prisons on Thursday.

Fresh from a silver medal finish at the CAVB Zone V Clubs Championship in Kampala, Uganda, Kenya Pipeline made light work of Young Spykers, securing a 3-0 (25-2, 25-6, 25-15) win. Their dominance was further boosted by two walkover victories after Vihiga Volleyball Club and Maranatha failed to show up for their fixtures on Thursday and Friday.

With nine wins and 25 points, Pipeline remains unbeaten at the top of the standings. However, their schedule remains tight as they shift focus to a high-stakes showdown against the KCB Women’s Volleyball Team next Sunday at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in the Kenya Cup.

Meanwhile, the struggles continued for Young Spykers, who have managed only three points from nine matches.

KCB Bank extended their winning streak with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-17) victory over Kenya Army on Sunday. The match, which started at 11 am, saw Kenya Army put up a spirited fight in the first set, led by Jersey No. 5 Sheilah Kiplagat. However, KCB’s experience and well-organised play secured them the set at 25-18.

The second set saw KCB dominate, forcing Kenya Army to call an early timeout at 5-11 as they struggled to contain KCB’s relentless attacks. The 25-10 win in the second set set the stage for the third, where Kenya Army fought hard but eventually fell 25-17, sealing KCB’s comfortable victory.

With the competition heating up, all eyes are now on the Kenya Cup showdown next weekend as Kenya Pipeline faces the KCB Women’s Volleyball Team in a match that could determine the league’s front-runner.

Meanwhile, teams like Young Spykers and Kenya Army will be looking to improve their form in the coming fixtures to stay competitive in the league.
