The day’s headline match sees 2008 champions Mathare United host a strong Kakamega Homeboyz side at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Homeboyz, who finished third last season, have maintained their competitive form and remain firmly in the title race. However, they come into the fixture having drawn their last two matches against Tusker and Murang’a Seal. A win would temporarily lift them to the top of the table.
Mathare United, meanwhile, continue to struggle. They have lost four of their eight matches and are 14th with eight points, having gone three games without victory.
Despite their setbacks, they will be pushing to halt their poor run and steer clear of early relegation danger. Last season, Homeboyz collected four points from Mathare, including a 1-0 win in their most recent meeting.
At the Kasarani Annex, Posta Rangers will aim to recover from a downturn in form when they face an improving Mara Sugar.
Posta started the season brightly, topping the table in the early rounds, but has since hit a four-match winless streak, including a defeat to Sofapaka in their previous outing. The side has also struggled in attack, scoring in only one of their last four fixtures.
Mara Sugar have been far more consistent, losing just once this season. Although they have drawn four of their seven matches, they enter today’s clash on the back of an impressive 2-0 win over AFC Leopards, their first home victory of the campaign. Last season, both fixtures between Mara Sugar and Posta ended in 1–1 draws.
In Mombasa, Bandari welcome Sofapaka to the Mbaraki Sports Club as they look to turn around a disappointing start. Bandari sit 15th and remain without a win in their last four outings, leaving coach Mohamed Borji still searching for his first victory of the season.
Sofapaka arrive in much better form, having won three of their last five matches, including a 2-0 triumph over Posta Rangers earlier this week. The 2009 champions will be looking to continue that momentum and avenge the double defeat they suffered against Bandari last season.
