Kenya Lionesses reach quarterfinals after a 37–0 win against Ghana

Sharp, disciplined, and confident in possession, Kenya dictated the tempo from the kickoff, with Grace Adhiambo finishing off a smooth attacking sequence to set the tone for the afternoon.

The Kenya Lionesses closed out a perfect opening day at the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens with another commanding display, overpowering Ghana 37–0 at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi to book their place in Sunday’s quarterfinals, where they will face Zimbabwe.

The hosts, who earlier demolished Ivory Coast 44–0, carried their momentum into their final Pool match and wasted no time asserting their superiority.

Sharp, disciplined, and confident in possession, Kenya dictated the tempo from the kickoff, with Grace Adhiambo finishing off a smooth attacking sequence to set the tone for the afternoon.

Ghana attempted to slow down Kenya’s rhythm but only invited trouble. A penalty conceded deep in their territory handed the Lionesses a prime attacking platform, and from the resulting lineout, Naomi Amuguni combined brilliantly with Freshia Oduor, who crossed the try line to stretch the advantage.

Amuguni narrowly missed a try of her own after being held up just short, but Kenya’s pressure remained relentless. On the stroke of halftime, Janet Okello showcased her trademark acceleration, cutting through the Ghanaian line to give the Lionesses a comfortable lead at the interval.

Kenya resumed the second half with equal ferocity. A slick exchange of passes opened space on the outside, and Okello struck again, securing her brace and pushing the score to 27–0.

Ghana, overwhelmed and struggling to escape their half, could do little to stem the tide as Moreen Muritu added another try soon after.

The match concluded in fitting fashion when Nelly Chikombe capitalised on yet another Ghana infringement, powering over for Kenya’s final try, mirroring the dominance she displayed earlier against the Ivory Coast.

The emphatic victory sealed a spotless day one from the home side, who head into the knockout rounds brimming with confidence.
