After years focused solely on marathons, Eliud Kipchoge is making a notable shift back to shorter races. In a new partnership with Thailand, the legendary runner will compete in a 10km event at the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok 2024, marking his first non-marathon race since 2016.
Following a recent partnership with Thailand, marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge is set to compete in a shorter race for the first time in nearly a decade. Known for his marathon dominance, the 39-year-old will take on a 10km race as part of the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok 2024. This marks his return to shorter races, having last competed outside the marathon in 2016.

The collaboration, led by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Kipchoge’s NN Running Team, aims to boost Thailand’s profile as a top running destination in Asia. Under this deal, Kipchoge and his team will not only participate in the event but also engage with local runners, sharing training methods and promoting the benefits of running. Kipchoge’s involvement in Thailand aligns with his global mission to inspire more people to embrace running as a way of life.
“I’ve always wanted to see the world as a community of runners because a world of runners is a happy world,” Kipchoge shared. He added that Asia, and especially Thailand, holds great promise for growing the sport.
Kipchoge’s return to shorter races follows a challenging season. After placing tenth at the Tokyo Marathon earlier in 2024 and not finishing at the Paris Olympics due to injury, this new partnership is a fresh start, both for him and the running community in Thailand. Through this collaboration, Thailand hopes to strengthen its connection to the global running scene, attracting more athletes and events in the years to come.
