FKF presidential aspirants call for electoral transparency amid allegations of voter register tampering

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Presidential candidates have raised the alarm over what they describe as voter register manipulation ahead of the upcoming elections. In a press conference held yesterday, the aspirants accused the current FKF leadership of tampering with the electoral process, threatening the credibility of the elections.

The candidates have called for urgent intervention from the FKF Electoral Board, the Ministry of Sports, and international bodies such as CAF and FIFA to ensure the elections are conducted fairly. They also issued a list of seven key demands aimed at restoring confidence in the electoral process.

Seven demands to ensure credibility

The aspirants' first demand is for the FKF Electoral Board to immediately appoint an independent body such as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) or the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to oversee the election process. This, they argue, will guarantee neutrality in the management of the elections.

The second demand calls for transparency in the voter register. The candidates want the FKF to notify all stakeholders of any changes or updates made to the register, in compliance with the 2013 Sports Act.

The candidates are also demanding the removal of FKF President Nick Mwendwa and General Secretary Barry Otieno from any involvement in the electoral process. They have urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate their conduct.

Concerns about the location of the FKF Electoral Board's offices have also been raised. The candidates are pushing for the Ministry of Sports to relocate the Board from Kandanda House, citing attempts to sabotage the election process at the current venue.

The candidates are further calling for strict oversight of the election process by both local and international stakeholders, including the Ministry of Sports, CAF, and FIFA. They believe such oversight is essential to guarantee transparency and credibility.

Additionally, the aspirants are seeking a roundtable discussion between the FKF Electoral Board and key stakeholders to endorse the electoral process and ensure that all parties involved are satisfied with the preparations.

Lastly, they are demanding clarity on the funding of the electoral process. The FKF must inform stakeholders about who is financing the election and whether the funds have been made available.

The candidates warned that failing to address these demands would compromise the integrity of the elections and, in turn, the future of football governance in Kenya. They urged all relevant authorities to act swiftly to prevent further electoral manipulation and safeguard the interests of Kenyan football.
