AFC Leopards rescue draw against Mara Sugar as Shabana, Bidco secure wins

By |

AFC Leopards fought back to claim a late draw against Mara Sugar, while Shabana FC celebrated their first win of the season with a spirited display over Kenya Police. Elsewhere, Bandari’s unbeaten streak came to an end as Bidco United secured a solid 2-0 victory. Here’s a rundown of the action-packed FKF Premier League weekend.

In a dramatic weekend for the FKF Premier League, AFC Leopards narrowly avoided a third consecutive loss, securing a last-minute equaliser against Mara Sugar at Dandora Stadium.

Sydney Lokale’s stoppage-time goal salvaged a 1-1 draw, marking the end of Ingwe's two-game goal drought but extending their winless run to four matches. The striker, benched in their previous 2-0 loss to Ulinzi Stars, found himself in the right spot to flick captain Clifton Miheso’s low cross past Mara’s keeper Felix Adoyo.

Earlier, Mara Sugar's Meshack Karani exploited a slip by Leopards’ right-back Samuel Semo to put the visitors ahead just before halftime. Coach Tomas Trucha made tactical substitutions in the second half, bringing on Kelly Madada and Vincent Mahiga, but despite their spirited play, clear chances remained scarce. Lokale’s blocked shot at close range in the dying minutes almost sealed their fate, but his persistence eventually paid off, offering Leopards a point that could prove vital in the long run.

Bandari 0-2 Bidco United

Meanwhile, Bandari FC’s unbeaten start to the season was shattered by a 2-0 defeat at home to Bidco United at Ukunda Showground. Despite initial control, Bandari’s fortunes turned after keeper James Omusinde mishandled a header from Marvin Amuka, gifting Bidco the lead in the 42nd minute. Bidco quickly doubled their advantage when Clinton Asiago capitalised on a Bandari defensive error just before the break.

Bandari attempted a comeback in the second half, even making a triple substitution, but Bidco’s organised defence held firm to secure their second win of the season, moving them to 11th on the log. Bandari, now in fifth, face a challenging gap to the league leaders, six points adrift.

Shabana 1-0 Kenya Police

The biggest celebration of the weekend, however, took place at Gusii Stadium, where Shabana FC claimed their first victory of the season, defeating the previously unbeaten Kenya Police 1-0. Peter Okidi’s reshuffled lineup delivered, with Vincent Nyabuto’s header from a James Mazembe cross putting Shabana in front before halftime. The hosts then displayed a disciplined defensive performance to maintain their lead. The win was deeply emotional, as the team honoured their teammate Fredrick Odhiambo, recently bereaved, by holding up his number 29 jersey during the celebrations. The home crowd erupted at full time, celebrating Shabana’s spirited triumph over Kenya Police.
