Sudanese army advances in Khartoum Bahri in fight against RSF, secures key locations

The Sudanese army has continued its advance across central and southern Khartoum Bahri, a city in Khartoum State north of the capital Khartoum, in a series of military successes.

The latest progress comes days after the army reclaimed control of the Khartoum oil refinery in the north and lifted the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) siege on the Signal Corps headquarters in the southern part of the city.

Videos shared by soldiers show the army securing several locations, including the Qatar Diyar Towers and the entrance to the Mak Nimr Bridge from Khartoum Bahri.

This bridge is an important link between Khartoum Bahri and the capital, Khartoum.

On Wednesday, the army issued a statement confirming that its forces, in coordination with the Central Reserve Police, were advancing towards the Khartoum Bahri local police headquarters, Mak Nimr Bridge, and several towers in the area.

Soldiers also posted images from the Khartoum Bahri headquarters, which is near the historic Hillet Hamad neighbourhood.

RSF fighters pushed back

Reports indicate that RSF fighters have been pushed back to the south western section of Khartoum Bahri, particularly in Hillet Hamad.

This area includes the Friendship Palace Hotel, which remains outside the army's control. The hotel is located near Tuti Island and faces the Republican Palace on the eastern bank of the Blue Nile. RSF units continue to hold positions in the Kafouri neighbourhood in eastern Khartoum Bahri.

Brigadier General Nabil Abdallah, an army spokesperson, stated on Saturday that operations were ongoing to remove RSF forces from their remaining strongholds in Khartoum Bahri.

On Wednesday, the army extended its control to the al-Danaqla neighbourhood in central Khartoum Bahri.

Soldiers and allied forces shared footage of their presence in the area. Reports suggest the army is also making advances in the Saad Qashra market and the al-Dayoum neighbourhood.

On Tuesday, the army and its allies had secured several strategic locations. These included the police towers, al-Zarqa towers north of Khartoum Bahri, the al-Muassasah intersection, and the paratroopers’ headquarters. The RSF had been using the paratroopers’ headquarters as a medical base.

The army's recent victories follow significant advances made the previous Friday. That day, the military announced it had broken the siege on the Signal Corps headquarters in southern Khartoum Bahri, regained control of the army's general command headquarters in central Khartoum, and forced RSF fighters out of the Khartoum oil refinery, which is about 60 kilometres north of Khartoum Bahri.

The situation remains fluid, with ongoing clashes reported in parts of Khartoum Bahri.

The Sudanese army continues operations to secure control over remaining RSF-held areas.
