X lets you start a post on your iPhone and finish on desktop with new draft sync feature

The draft syncing update, now available on iOS and the web, allows an unfinished post written on an iPhone to be accessed instantly from a desktop browser, with no need to copy and paste text or email yourself ideas.
X has rolled out a new feature that lets users start writing a post on one device and finish it on another, bridging a gap that has frustrated creators and casual users alike.

The feature began rolling out quietly this week and is expected to reach all iOS users globally, including those in Kenya, over the next few days.
“We’ve made it seamless to move between your phone and your computer, drafts now follow you automatically,” confirmed Nikita Bier, X’s Head of Product, in a post announcing the change.
How it works
When you start a post on X’s iOS app and save it as a draft, the text is securely stored in X’s cloud servers. The next time you log in to x.com on a computer, the same draft will appear under the “Drafts” tab.
The reverse also works: you can start typing on your laptop and continue the post later on your iPhone. The system syncs instantly and automatically, provided you are logged into the same account.
Unlike older versions, where drafts were stored locally on the device, this new approach centralises them, so you never lose progress even if you switch devices or reinstall the app.
Currently, the feature supports text-only drafts, meaning attachments such as photos, GIFs, or videos will not yet sync between devices. Users will need to re-upload media when switching platforms.
Android users left waiting
For now, the experience is exclusive to Apple users and the web. X says the feature will be available on Android “soon,” once the app’s ongoing interface redesign is complete.
The company has not confirmed a firm rollout date for Android, but early indications suggest it could arrive before the end of the year. “We wanted to ship the text experience first rather than wait until everything was perfect,” Bier explained, noting that the team is working on multi-platform parity.
According to early user reports, the feature has already appeared across North America, Europe, and parts of Africa, including Kenya.
Nairobi users
Users in Nairobi who updated their iOS app on Tuesday said they were able to view saved drafts from the web version almost instantly.
This global rollout strategy aligns with X’s recent approach to feature deployment, which prioritises major markets simultaneously rather than region by region.
The draft syncing update may seem minor, but it is a major quality-of-life improvement for journalists, social media managers, and creators who frequently switch devices. It also hints at X’s broader push to rebuild user trust and improve platform usability, as the company experiments with video, long-form posts, and subscription-based features.
X has not announced whether the feature will expand beyond personal drafts, for instance, to allow teams or brand accounts to share saved posts between members.
However, given X’s growing focus on professional content creation, experts believe collaborative drafting and media syncing may come soon.
For now, users on iOS and the web can enjoy the freedom of seamless writing, while Android users will have to wait.
