WhatsApp to introduce transcription feature for voice notes
In addition, this can be particularly useful in situations like meetings, while travelling, or in public places where listening to voice messages may be disruptive or almost impossible.
WhatsApp is currently working on a new feature that will allow users to read voice notes instead of listening to them.
This feature will be perfect for noisy environments where listening to audio is not practical, quiet or private settings where playing voice messages might disturb others, and for accessibility needs, especially for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have auditory processing difficulties.

It will also benefit users who prefer reading over listening or need to quickly reference what was said without replaying the message.
This feature aims to enhance user experience, offering more flexibility and inclusivity for a wide range of preferences and situations.
In addition, this can be particularly useful in situations like meetings, while travelling, or in public places where listening to voice messages may be disruptive or almost impossible.
The feature will offer users three options:
First, the automatic transcription option will ensure that voice messages are transcribed as soon as they are received, providing an easy way for users who prefer reading over listening.
Secondly, the manual transcription option will allow users to choose when they want to transcribe a message, giving them full control. This is ideal for users who want to conserve data or battery life and prefer a more personalised approach to transcription.
And lastly, the third option completely disables transcription, preventing both automatic and manual transcriptions for those who prefer not to have their voice messages converted to text.
This ensures privacy and control for those users who are concerned about their messages being transcribed, offering a more secure and customisable experience.
According to WABetaInfo, the new feature is currently only available to selected Beta testers on iOS and Android and is yet to roll out to users worldwide.
