NTSA orders all car dealers, tow truck owners to revalidate their licenses

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced an 11-day license revalidation for all tow truck owners, motor vehicle dealers (both new and second-hand) and motor vehicle repairers.

This initiative seeks to enhance compliance with the law.

In a notice on Tuesday, NTSA urged motor vehicle owners to adhere to this requirement in line with Sections 23(1) and 24 of the Traffic Act, Cap 403, which govern the licensing and regulation of motor vehicle and motorcycle dealers.

The revalidation is scheduled to take place from November 11 to November 22, 2024.

Operators are required to complete an online license revalidation form, which is accessible on the NTSA website.

The deadline for submission of this form is Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

"All operators are therefore directed to complete and submit an online license revalidation form available on the NTSA website on or before Wednesday, 6th November 2024," reads the notice.

Following the online submissions, a multi-agency team will conduct physical inspections of the operators' premises to verify the information provided.

"It is crucial that all submitted information is accurate to prevent any potential inconveniences during this process," the notice reads.

For further inquiries about the revalidation, operators are encouraged to visit their nearest NTSA office or the NTSA Huduma Centre help desk.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and tackle urgent issues within the transport industry.

The NTSA highlights a serious public safety concern, estimating that around 3,000 lives are lost in road accidents each year.

Many of these incidents occur during weekends, festive seasons, and public holidays when traffic volumes rise.

The hours between 5 pm and 8 am are identified as peak times for accidents, where reduced visibility and driver fatigue significantly impair judgment.

Key factors contributing to this alarming rate of road fatalities include drink driving and carelessness.
