In a significant move, the United Democratic Movement (UDM) has officially opened its office in the border town of Mandera, asserting itself as the political vehicle for the region. Mandera County Senator Ali Roba proudly announced that, after eight months in its management role, the party successfully garnered 7 Members of Parliament, over 38 ward representatives, and two governors.

Senator Roba emphasized the strategic decision to establish an office in Mandera due to the party's majority representation in both the county and national assembly, declaring it the stronghold of the party. The former two-term governor outlined plans to open additional offices in various constituencies within the county.

The primary objective of the newly inaugurated office is to lead a robust membership drive. Despite being initially registered in 1989, UDM, under the leadership of Roba and the current management, gained prominence in the months leading up to the 2022 General Election.

"UDM is an old party, similar to other parties in Kenya, and we are determined to open more offices to ensure a smooth membership drive," stated Senator Roba. He urged supporters to join the party, which he envisions as the political force of the Northern region.

Senator Roba emphasized that the era of the region affiliating with other parties is over. He stressed the importance of supporting a party whose leadership is known and trusted. Notably, during the by-elections in Garissa Township, UDM provided stiff competition to the ruling UDA party, showcasing its growing influence.

Senator Roba has been positioning himself as the region's political figurehead, with other political players aligning with either the ruling party or the opposition. The opening of the Mandera office marks a significant step for UDM in solidifying its presence and influence in the region.
