Della MCA Yussuf Hussein abducted in Nairobi, Wajir leaders demand action

Wajir MCAs, led by Speaker Abdille Yussuf, revealed that Yussuf was kidnapped around 9 pm by unidentified individuals in two Land Cruiser Prado vehicles.

Yussuf Hussein, the MCA for Della Ward in Eldas Constituency, Wajir County, was abducted by unknown individuals along Enterprise Road in Nairobi's Makadara constituency on Friday night.

Members of the Wajir County Assembly, along with Eldas MP Adan Keinan, have condemned the abduction and are urging law enforcement agencies to intervene and ensure Yussuf’s safety while apprehending those responsible for the crime.

In a press statement, Wajir MCAs, led by Speaker Abdille Yussuf, revealed that Yussuf was kidnapped around 9 pm by unidentified individuals in two Land Cruiser Prado vehicles. Since then, his whereabouts have remained unknown to his family, colleagues, and constituents.

"The identity and motive behind his abduction remain unknown. Similarly, we are unaware of any ongoing investigations or charges against him," said Speaker Abdille, speaking from Nairobi.

The leaders called on law enforcement to clarify whether state agencies were involved in the incident, noting that if so, Yussuf should have been arrested lawfully and humanely, not abducted under the cover of night. They emphasised that such actions violate his rights and cause unnecessary distress to his family and community. The MCAs expressed alarm over what they described as a gross violation of human rights, characterising the incident as an arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance, which is prohibited under Article 29 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. They also voiced concerns about the rising cases of abductions in the region, calling for an immediate investigation.

Eldas MP Adan Keynan described the abduction as both "appalling and profoundly shocking," labelling it a heinous act. He explained that Yussuf was en route to South C in a taxi when he was intercepted by two unmarked vehicles and forcibly taken by unknown assailants. The taxi driver's phone was confiscated by the abductors to prevent any immediate communication.

"Fortunately, Yussuf 's phone, which inadvertently fell inside the taxi, was later recovered by the driver," said Adan.

The taxi driver reported the incident to the Industrial Area Police Station, and an investigation is underway. Hussein's family also filed a report with the DCI at Makadara Police Station under OB 86/13/09/2024.

Adan called for a swift and decisive intervention by law enforcement to secure the MCA’s safety and ensure those responsible for the abduction are apprehended.
