Pathologists engaged to identify mutilated body linked to missing Wajir MCA Yussuf Hussein

The family members have been pressing for the release of the body, which they claim belongs to the missing MCA, identifying it by a deformity in one of the fingers on the left hand.

Government and private pathologists have been engaged to determine whether the mutilated body recovered at Lake Yahud in Wajir town belonged to the missing Della Anole Member of the County Assembly, Yussuf Hussein.

Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi said government and private pathologists were involved following concerns that the body might be linked to the missing MCA.

"An autopsy has been conducted, and we have collected three DNA samples, two of which will be analysed at the KEMRI laboratory, and one at a private facility," he said.

The governor added that samples had been collected from the relatives of the missing MCA to assist with the identification process, with results expected in two to three weeks.

He said the body remains at the Wajir Referral Hospital pending the results. Governor Ahmed called for calm and patience until the body is positively identified.

Eldas Member of Parliament, Adan Keynan, who addressed the media after visiting the mortuary on Tuesday, said an earlier autopsy by government pathologists could not confirm whether the body belonged to the missing MCA due to the extent of the damage.

"This prompted us to engage more pathologists in Nairobi to determine the identity of the body, which we suspect is Yussuf," he said.

Keynan added that they were still demanding the release of the missing MCA, who they believe is being held by state security agencies.

He appealed to the family members and relatives demanding the release of the body for burial to remain patient until the results are announced.

Keynan also urged the residents of Wajir town to refrain from destructive demonstrations that could breach the peace.

He further called on President William Ruto to hold the security forces involved in abductions, forced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings accountable.

"We are not in a failed state; we are governed by a constitution. If those meant to enforce the law are breaking it, what should the ordinary citizen do?" he asked.

Keynan urged security agencies to refrain from actions likely to provoke public anger, stressing the importance of cooperation from the public.

The missing Member of the Wajir County Assembly was waylaid and abducted on September 13 in Nairobi.
