Hundreds of Wajir residents throng mortuary where body of missing MCA Yussuf Ahmed lay

The deceased was waylaid and abducted on September 13 while on his way to South C in Nairobi and had been missing since then.

Hundreds of Wajir residents on Sunday gathered at Wajir Referral Hospital mortuary, where the mutilated body of the missing Wajir's Dela MCA Yussuf Hussein Ahmed was brought after being recovered from Lake Yahud, near Wajir town.

Family members are reported to have positively identified the body. The family and local Wajir leaders are yet to comment on the shocking incident.

Hussein Abdi Aden, a distant relative who spoke to The Eastleigh Voice, said they were devastated and mourning the horrifying incident, which demands justice.

"The body is disfigured and decomposed, with severe signs of torture and serious burns. This is inhuman," he said.

The deceased was waylaid and abducted on September 13 while on his way to South C in Nairobi and had been missing since then.

Family members have been pursuing justice through the courts, in a case filed in September where the Inspector General of Police was listed as the first respondent, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as the second respondent.

High Court Judge, Justice Alexander Muteti, ordered the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the DCI to provide an updated report on the status of the investigations by October 7.

He also directed them to offer protection to the key witness in the case, filed by lawyers led by Danstan Omari and Law Society of Kenya lawyer Hosea Manwa, concerning the abduction of the MCA, pending a formal application for witness protection.
