Raila: I'll transform African Union into people-centred organisation

He expressed his aspiration for the people of Africa to directly experience the positive impact of the African Union (AU) in their daily lives.
Kenya's candidate for the Africa Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship Raila Odinga has pledged to transform the African Union into a people-centred organisation if he is elected to the position.
Speaking on Tuesday at State House, Nairobi during the unveiling of his AUC chair candidature, Raila emphasised his commitment to collaborating with all heads of state to achieve tangible results.

He expressed his aspiration for the people of Africa to directly experience the positive impact of the African Union (AU) in their daily lives.
"My plan is to work with you, Your Excellencies, to make the AU more people-centred and to serve the interests of the vast, voiceless majority of Africans. The African people should feel the presence of the AU in their lives," Raila said.

"If elected the chair, I will use the transition period to analyse the existing proposals critically."
The former Prime minister who is also the Azimio leader, said that his vision is also to see a united Africa, one which is not divided by regions.
"I dream of an Africa that borders and colonial languages no longer divide us. We don't want Africans to be divided as francophones, lusophones; I want them to be Africaphones," Raila added.
"Excellencies, I am ready to serve, my heart is ready, my hands are steady and with your support, I shall get the opportunity to be of service to Africa, the cradle of mankind. I am made in Eastern Africa for Africa."
