Over 90,000 Kenyans register as new voters, with Nairobi, Kiambu topping the list

The statistics show Nairobi County is leading with 16,512 new registrations and 5,388 transfers, followed by Kiambu with 9,917 new registrations and 1,766 transfers.

Over 90,000 Kenyans have signed up as new voters in the latest phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced.

IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon said the figures highlight steady progress as the commission continues to fulfil its constitutional mandate under Article 88(4) of the Constitution to facilitate voter enrollment across all 290 constituency offices nationwide.

“The Commission notes steady progress as more citizens take advantage of this opportunity to register as new voters, transfer their registration to preferred polling stations, or update their details where necessary,” Ethekon said.

As of October 31, 2025, the CVR exercise had recorded 90,020 newly registered voters, 15,619 transfers and 188 updates.

The statistics show Nairobi County is leading with 16,512 new registrations and 5,388 transfers, followed by Kiambu with 9,917 new registrations and 1,766 transfers. Machakos recorded 4,026 new registrations and 367 transfers, Mombasa 3,967 new registrations and 1,791 transfers, Meru 3,128 new registrations and 279 transfers and Murang’a 3,330 new registrations and 311 transfers.

In contrast, arid and semi-arid counties such as Tana River, Wajir, Mandera and Isiolo registered minimal transfer activity, with most showing zero or near-zero transfers.

The registration exercise, which resumed on September 29, 2025, excluded the 24 electoral areas slated for by-elections on November 27, 2025.

“The Commission did not carry out Continuous Voter Registration in the 24 electoral areas with by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025,” the IEBC noted.

Ethekon urged all stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organisations, faith-based groups, and the media, to encourage eligible citizens to register, verify their details, or transfer to their preferred polling stations.

“The Commission reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that every eligible Kenyan has the opportunity to play their part in shaping the country’s democratic future,” he added.

The data collected during this exercise will serve as a foundation for the 2027 general elections, reinforcing the importance of sustained voter engagement and participation across the country.
