Four doctors dismissed after woman gives birth in hospital corridor in Tana River

Speaking during the protest, Governor Dhadho said the county government would not tolerate negligence in the delivery of healthcare services and warned that officers who fail to perform their duties professionally would face disciplinary action.

Four doctors at Hola County Referral Hospital have been dismissed following an incident in which a pregnant woman gave birth in a hospital corridor, triggering public outrage and protests by women in Hola town.
The dismissals were announced by Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana during a public address attended by hundreds of demonstrators who had gathered to demand accountability over the incident.
Speaking during the protest, Governor Dhadho said the county government would not tolerate negligence in the delivery of healthcare services and warned that officers who fail to perform their duties professionally would face disciplinary action.
“We can no longer tolerate this situation. We have given sufficient time for improvements, but the changes we expected have not been realised. Those who are unable to serve residents properly must leave,” said the governor.
The governor also issued a warning to the hospital's management committee, saying responsibility for service delivery failures extends beyond frontline medical staff. He stressed that accountability must be upheld at all levels of leadership within the health sector.

According to the governor, county officials who fail to meet the required standards of service will be removed from their positions as part of efforts to restore public confidence in healthcare facilities.
The incident involving the expectant mother sparked anger among residents, particularly women, who staged demonstrations to protest what they described as poor treatment of patients at the referral hospital.
Governor Dhadho apologised to residents over the incident and acknowledged the concerns raised by the protesters. He pledged that the county government would implement reforms aimed at improving healthcare services across Tana River County.
The dismissals mark one of the strongest actions taken by the county administration in response to complaints about healthcare services, with authorities under pressure to ensure similar incidents do not recur in public health facilities.
