Lamu residents to pay final respects to late Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua

Munyua passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024, at around 18:30 hours at Nairobi Hospital.
The residents of Lamu have been given an opportunity to pay their final respects to the late Deputy Governor, Raphael Ndung’u Munyua, who passed away last Friday.
The County Government of Lamu has set up two public sites for the community, friends, and colleagues to sign a condolence book and share their tributes in remembrance of the departed leader.

The condolence books will be available at the Mpeketoni Ward Administrator Office in Bahari Ward and the Mokowe County Headquarters, open for signing from 8 am to 4 pm.
“Following the demise of Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Ndung'u Munyua, the County Government of Lamu wishes to notify the people of Lamu that it has designated two places where friends and members of the public will sign the condolence book in memory of Raphael Munyua,” the county government stated.
The County Government of Lamu also on behalf of its staff sent heartfelt condolences and sympathies to “his wife, children and the entire people of Lamu whom he ably represented in the County.”
Munyua passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024, at around 18:30 hours at Nairobi Hospital.
His death was announced on Friday night by President William Ruto.
“I am saddened by the news of the passing away of the Deputy Governor of Lamu County Raphael Munyua Ndung’u,” said the President, who remembered Munyua as a progressive leader dedicated to the people of Lamu.
Munyua assumed the role of Lamu Deputy Governor after running on a joint Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket with Governor Issa Timamy in the August 2022 general elections.
In a heartfelt message, Governor Issa expressed profound sorrow at the loss of his colleague and friend.
“Raphael was not just a deputy to me; he was a colleague, a close friend, a brother, and a dedicated servant of the people of Lamu,” said Issa.
The Governor highlighted Munyua's commitment to the development and prosperity of Lamu, noting his efforts in championing initiatives to improve education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security in the county.
“His wisdom, humility, and relentless pursuit of justice will be remembered by all who had the privilege of working alongside him,” he added.
The late Deputy Governor is survived by his wife, Stella Tayo Ndung’u, and their children.
