The Isiolo County government has taken action in response to the ongoing El Nino rains, forming a Flood Impact Assessment Team (FIAT) to evaluate the extent of damage and required interventions in Northern Kenya. Led by County Secretary Dadhe Boru, the team includes County Executive Committee members (CECs), chief officers, and county technical officers.

Dispatched to areas severely affected by floods in the past week, the team's mission is to assess the damage and urgent needs for intervention. Their focus includes providing relief food to affected households and implementing water diversion plans to mitigate the risks of flooding for local communities.

The team conducted assessments in Safi Estates, Shambani, Osman Dima, Ngaremara, Kambi Odha, County, Mwangaza, and part of Kiwanjani. County Secretary Dadhe Boru expressed deep concern about the escalating situation, particularly in Safi Estates, Bula, Osman Dima, Kambi Odha, and Olla Bule, where many houses were flooded, forcing families to endure the cold nights.

The findings of the day highlighted severe impacts on households, with many losing essential utensils and vital documents to the flash floods, resulting in damaged homes. Specific incidents, such as the loss of 6 shoats in Safi Estate and the rescue of a man in Olla Bule, underscored the gravity of the situation exacerbated by relentless El Nino rains.

County Secretary Dadhe Boru issued a warning, urging residents living close to streams and seasonal rivers to relocate to safer grounds. He emphasized the immediate threats posed by heavy rain and flash floods from upstream, causing havoc and widespread suffering.

Assuring affected families in Isiolo town, Dadhe Boru stated that the County government would provide both food and non-food items. Plans for airlifting food, drugs, and other essential items to areas with impassable roads due to the floods were also announced, aiming to alleviate the hardships faced by the affected communities.
