Tusker FC edge Police as Sharks and Posta Rangers sparkle in comeback wins

By |

All eyes will be on Gor Mahia tomorrow when they take on Muhoroni Youth in Murang'a. A win for K'Ogalo will all but hand the Green Army their 21st League title

Another 1-0 loss to Tusker FC in Round 31 dashed Kenya Police FC's hopes of recovering from their first loss in 2024, a 1-0 loss to AFC Leopards in Round 30.

The alemen prevailed against the law enforcers in a match that was played at the Police Sacco Stadium on Saturday.

The former Gor Mahia and Kakamega Homeboyz defender scored the brewers’ winner in the 43rd minute, allowing his team to leapfrog their opponents to second in the league standings with 56 points. Kenya Police have now dropped to third place with 54 points following their consecutive losses to AFC Leopards and Tusker FC.

Now trailing Gor Mahia with eight points and three rounds of league action left to play, Tusker FC’s title now hinges on a disastrous capitulation by K’Ogalo. The league leaders can seal the title tomorrow with a victory against Muhoroni Youth, but defeats in their remaining four matches can give Tusker an opportunity to snatch the title away from them should the Alemen win all three of their remaining league games.

Earlier at the same venue, Posta Rangers overcame a 2-1 deficit to defeat Kakamega Homeboyz. Abana Abeingo led 1-0 at halftime, courtesy of a 10th-minute goal by Brian Eshihanda. However, they went to sleep in the second half, and Posta Rangers snatched victory from them with goals from Shami Kibwana and Felix Oluoch in the 55th and 68th minutes, respectively.

With the victory, the Mailmen rise to 7th with 46 points, while the Homeboyz drop to 9th with 44 points.

Elsewhere at the Dandora Stadium, a 2-1 loss to the Kariobangi Sharks, who once again benefited from the brilliance of John Makwata, complicated Shabana's quest to survive relegation. John Makwata's three-minute blitz in the second half dashed Shabana's hopes of returning to their base in Kisii with maximum points. Makwata scored in the 78th and 81st minutes to deny the Glamour Boys victory and send the Kariobangi Sharks to 8th place with 44 points.

Shabana will now have to dig deeper into the remaining league fixtures to ensure their presence in next season’s top flight, as the loss leaves them 16th with 29 points.
