By |

Gor Mahia is firmly at the helm of the FKFPL log with 54 points

Gor Mahia extended their lead at the top of the FKF Premier League table following a 3-1 away win over the league's basement club Nzoia Sugar in a match that was played at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

Under Johnathan McKinstry, Gor Mahia have shown a tendency to make things difficult for themselves when the onus is on them to get a result under relatively favourable conditions. Today seemed to be like one of those days when Gor Mahia fans endure a nervous afternoon after Ian Simiyu gave the home side the lead in the 26th minute from the penalty spot.

However, to the relief of K'Ogalo fans, Gor Mahia managed to turned the game around with goals from Shariff Musa (43rd minute), Bryson Wangai (62nd minute) and Benson Omala (90th minute).

The win, which takes Gor Mahia to 54 points, put K'Ogalo in the right frame of mind as they prepare to take on AFC Leopards in the Nairobi Derby next weekend. Nzoia Sugar remain bottomw with 17 points.

Kenya Police 1-0 KCB

Elsewhere, at the Police Sacco Stadium, Kenya Police registered their first ever league win over KCB following a 1-0 victory that saw them leapfrog Tusker and Bandari into second place with 45 points. Duncan Otieno scored the all-important goal for the law enforcers in the 14th minute. The loss leaves KCB 10th with 34 points.

Bandari 1-1 Bidco United

In Mombasa, Bandari's first home match following the closure of their primary home ground, Mbaraki Sports Club, for renovations did not go according to plan as Bidco United held the Dockers to a 1-1 draw. Andrew Juma had given the home side the lead in the 44th minute to send them to second place temporarily but Emmanuel Mogaka equalised for the away side from the penalty spot in the 60th and neither team could find a winner after that. Bandari are now third with 44 points but may slip to fourth at the end of the weekend as Tusker, who are fourth on 43 points, play tomorrow.

Sofapaka 1-1 Ulinzi Stars

At the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, Sofapaka and Ulinzi Stars shared the spoils as Amos Asembeka's 62nd-minute equaliser for Sofapaka cancelled out Issa Lumumba's 45th-minute goal that had given Ulinzi Stars the lead. The result sees Ulinzi Stars remain in 13th place with 30 points as Sofapaka rise to 14th place with 28 points.

Kakamega Homeboyz 1-1 Kariobangi Sharks

Kakamega Homeboyz and Kariobangi Sharks also battled to a 1-1 draw in a 1 pm kick-off Mumias Sports Complex as both teams extended their unbeaten runs to seven and six matches respectively. Kariobangi Sharks drew first blood with a goal from Moses Shikanda in the 22nd minute but Shafik Batambuze equalised for the home team six minutes later to ensure both teams went to the break level. The second half saw no goals as both teams maintained their positions on the log with Kakamega Homeboyz remaining 6th with 39 points and Kariobangi Sharks staying 12th with 30 31 points.

Nairobi City Stars 3-0 Murang'a Seal

In the day's other 1 pm kick-off, Nairobi City Stars returned to winning ways with a thunderous 3-0 win over Murang'a Seal who saw their four-match unbeaten run come to a screeching halt. The first half had ended goalless but City Stars returned stronger after the halftime and broke the deadlock in the 54th minute through a Mohammed Bajaber penalty. Dennis Oalo added a second two minutes later before Japanese midfielder Yuto Kusaba added a third from the penalty spot in the 85th minute after Murang'a Seal had lost Ali Yusuf to a red card in the 83rd minute. The win took City Stars to 42 points in 5th place. Murang'a Seal remain 11th with 34 points.
