Manhunt launched after robbery convict escapes from police at Kibera Law Courts

Kibisu, who was in April handed a 20-year sentence for robbery with violence, broke free while being escorted by officers at the court premises.

There was drama at the Kibera Law Courts on Wednesday after a convicted robber, Alex Kibisu, escaped from police custody under unclear circumstances.

Kibisu, who was in April handed a 20-year sentence for robbery with violence, broke free while being escorted by officers at the court premises.

The convict was being escorted to the court for a mention of his case, where he had appealed the sentence.

Kibisu is alleged to have overpowered the police officer who was escorting him before disappearing through the court's corridors.

Security personnel were immediately placed on high alert, with officers launching a manhunt around the Kibra area.

He was convicted earlier this year for violently robbing three women near Uhuru Gardens, a case that drew public attention after his initial death sentence was reduced to a 20-year term by the High Court in April 2025.

Kibisu's escape has raised questions about security lapses at the courts.
