Government calls on parents to join week-long county discussions on CBC rollout
The Ministry of Education urges stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and education officials, to actively participate in these discussions to ensure the successful implementation of CBE.
The Ministry of Education has announced a nationwide series of county-based dialogues aimed at assessing the quality of education and learning outcomes under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.
The discussions, set to take place from March 7 to March 13, 2025, will be held in all the 47 counties, engaging key stakeholders in the education sector.

The national launch of the initiative will be presided over by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba at Machakos People's Park on March 7.
According to the ministry, these dialogues will serve as a platform to update stakeholders on the progress of CBE implementation, assess the system's achievements, and address emerging opportunities and challenges.
Key focus areas
The week-long discussions will focus on several critical areas, including: providing updates on the implementation of CBE, engaging stakeholders in the validation of transition guidelines from Junior School to Senior School, evaluating teacher recruitment and capacity-building efforts and gathering feedback from education stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of the new system.
The CBE system, which was introduced in 2019 to replace the longstanding 8-4-4 structure, follows a 2-6-6-3 model, comprising two years of pre-primary, six years of primary, six years of secondary, and three years of higher education.
Schedule of discussions
Following the national launch in Machakos, the dialogues will move to various counties, with venues including Maralal Polytechnic in Samburu, Meru School, and Nasokol Girls in West Pokot, among others.
Other key locations include Moi Girls in Marsabit, Waso High school in Isiolo, Alldina Vishram in Mombasa, North Eastern National Polytechnic in Garissa, Meru School in Meru, Mokkowe Arid Primary School in Lamu, Maasai National Polytechnic in Kajiado, and Kwale High in Kwale, with additional sessions taking place in Kisumu, Nyeri, Nakuru, Kiambu and other regions.
The engagements will conclude on March 13 in Laikipia (Nanyuki High School), Tana River (Hola Boys), and Nairobi (St. George’s Primary).
