The recent tarmacking of Mvuma Nyuki Road in Eastleigh South has sparked development in the area, following years of neglect.

For decades, the road made access difficult for vehicles and businesses.
One month after the completion of the tarmacking, local residents and traders are witnessing change. The newly paved road has led to a surge in business activity, with investors setting up container shops that are now bustling with customers.
Areas that were once quiet and dusty are now experiencing increased traffic and commercial interest.
“The area suffered for so many years. It was the worst road in Section Three, but now you can see how it is shining,” said Ibrahim Muhumed, a local shop owner.
He noted that transporting goods to his shop has become easier since the road was paved.
Mothers who run small eateries and kiosks have also welcomed the changes. They say the dust from the unpaved road used to cause health issues, especially for those with allergies. Suleqa Siyad, who runs a food stall near the road, shared her experience.
“I used to have allergies now and then due to the dust. It is no longer there. I expect a boom in business too as accessing this area is much easier,” she said.
Improved infrastructure
Motorcycle taxi operators, also known as bodaboda riders, are among those benefiting from the improved infrastructure.
Johnson Ojiambo, who has been operating in the area for six years, described the transformation.
“I have never seen it this clean. The stones damaged my tires because of their roughness. That is gone now,” he said.
The local Member of County Assembly, Nicholas Juma, spoke during the road works about the health challenges residents had been facing, particularly among children attending nearby schools.
“There is a school here, and children have been developing lung diseases due to the dust. Once it is completed, the cases will reduce,” he said.
The improved road has opened up the area to more vehicles, with traffic jams now being reported — a sign that the road is serving more users than before. The accessibility has also contributed to increased trade and movement.
Mvuma Nyuki Road has now become an important commercial zone. It hosts hospitals, restaurants, retail outlets, wholesale shops, and other businesses that rely on smooth transport links.
With better roads, residents are now able to operate efficiently and safely, and the area is gradually transforming into a more active and connected part of Eastleigh.
