Court issues arrest warrant for Juja MP Koimburi in staged abduction and land fraud case

Milimani Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi issued the warrant after Koimburi and two co-accused individuals failed to appear in court on Wednesday.

A warrant of arrest has been issued against Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi for failing to appear in court to answer charges of conspiracy to defeat justice.

Milimani Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi issued the warrant after Koimburi and two co-accused individuals failed to appear in court on Wednesday.

The three accused—Koimburi, Peter Kiratu, and Njuguna alias Njugush—are scheduled to appear in court on August 5 for plea taking.

Meanwhile, four suspects previously under investigation in connection with the alleged staged abduction of MP Koimburi have denied three charges brought against them.

The four—Grace Nduta Wairimu (Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA), Peter Kiratu Mbari, David Macharia Gatana, and Cyrus Muhia—are accused of conspiring to defeat justice by faking Koimburi’s abduction on May 25 in the Mugutha area of Juja.

According to the prosecution, the alleged abduction was staged to prevent Koimburi’s arrest and arraignment at the Kiambu Law Courts, where he was to face four counts related to land fraud, as directed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in a letter dated May 20.

False information

Koimburi and Kiratu also face charges of giving and publishing false information.

Koimburi, who is yet to plead, is accused of issuing a press statement via a YouTube account on June 7 while at Karen Hospital, claiming he had been abducted and tortured by unknown criminals—claims he allegedly knew to be false and intended to cause public alarm.

Kiratu is accused of reporting the fake abduction to police officer Nelly Kabuu at Mugutha Police Station on May 25.

He claimed Koimburi had been abducted by masked individuals after attending a church service at Full Gospel Church, Mugutha.

The report was entered in the police occurrence book (OB No. 21/25/05/2025), despite Kiratu allegedly knowing the information was false.

Bond

State Prosecutor Victor Owiti did not oppose the release of the accused on bond, noting they had previously been granted cash bail of Sh300,000 and had cooperated with investigators.

Defence counsel informed the court that the accused were willing to comply with any conditions set by the court and had shown good conduct during the investigation.

In his ruling, Magistrate Ekhubi ordered the accused to retain the same Sh300,000 bond granted in May 2025. However, he directed that each of them provide three contact persons.

The court also instructed police to complete investigations into the detained vehicles, which were reported to contain cheque books and title deeds.

The case will be mentioned on August 5 for pre-trial.
