Nine police officers injured in IED attack in Garissa County

The police report confirmed that no fatalities were reported, but the nine injured officers were rushed to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) hospital in Hagadera refugee camp for treatment.
Nine police officers were injured on Tuesday when their armoured vehicle triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Al-Shabaab militants at Kiwanja-Yumbis in Fafi sub-county, Garissa County.
According to the police report, the officers from the Border Patrol Unit (BPU) were travelling 10 kilometres from Yumbis town when the incident occurred.

The police report confirmed that no fatalities were reported, but the nine injured officers were rushed to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) hospital in Hagadera refugee camp for treatment.
"Security personnel responded swiftly, and the area has been secured. All other officers are accounted for," the police report stated.
Investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack, which highlights the ongoing threat posed by militants to both security forces and civilians.
This incident comes on the heels of previous attacks in the region.
In July 2025, two people were killed in an IED attack in Bodhai, Madah Adon area of Ijara, Garissa County.
In April 2025, two General Service Unit officers were killed and four seriously injured in an IED attack in Dadaab.
