Kenya and Morocco are expanding defence cooperation through joint air force training, capacity building and professional exchanges to strengthen regional security and military readiness.

Kenya and Morocco are stepping up military cooperation, with modern air power taking centre stage in efforts to deepen their growing defence partnership.
The two countries are seeking closer collaboration in air force training, professional exchanges and institutional development as they respond to increasingly complex regional security threats.
The discussions took place in Nairobi during a meeting between Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Bernard Waliaula, and Morocco’s Defence, Military, Naval and Air Attaché, Colonel Said Moustaid.
The talks centred on expanding cooperation between the Kenya Air Force and the Royal Moroccan Air Force through capacity building, joint training, knowledge sharing and stronger institutional collaboration.
According to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), modern air power is no longer defined solely by advanced aircraft or cutting-edge technology.
“Modern air power depends as much on trusted partnerships as it does on advanced aircraft and technology.”
Major General Waliaula said sustained military partnerships enhance operational readiness by exposing personnel to new experiences and strengthening professional competence.
“We value our growing partnership with Morocco,” he said. “Engagements such as these strengthen professional ties, facilitate the exchange of expertise, and better prepare our forces to address evolving security challenges.”
Colonel Moustaid reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to deepening defence relations with Kenya, saying continued engagement would create new opportunities for cooperation in areas of shared strategic interest.
The meeting underscored the growing importance of defence diplomacy in building trust and strengthening military-to-military ties. Kenyan military officials said regular engagements help improve interoperability, enhance regional stability and support collective security.
Kenya and Morocco have maintained longstanding diplomatic relations and are increasingly translating them into practical defence cooperation, reflecting a shared commitment to stronger defence institutions, secure airspace and long-term regional peace.
