Kenyans to experience severe weather, cold nights in coming days

Nairobi County will experience showers in the afternoon, which are expected to persist into the evening.

Kenyans are set to experience severe weather conditions, with more rain and cold nights expected across various parts of the country, according to the latest forecast issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department.

The 7-day forecast, released on Friday, July 27, indicated that the extreme weather conditions observed this week will persist in the coming days.

On Friday, heavy rainfall and flooding were reported in different areas of Nairobi, with the CBD being the most affected.

Kennedy Thiong’o, Director of Meteorological Services, stated, “Rainfall is expected to continue across the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central Rift Valley, and Northwestern Kenya.”

Today, showers are expected across various areas in the morning, with rain likely to continue in high-altitude regions such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka.

Nairobi County will experience showers in the afternoon, which are expected to persist into the evening. The morning will start with cloudy skies and occasional sunshine, transitioning to showers in high-elevation areas during the afternoon, followed by partly cloudy conditions in the evening.

This weather pattern is anticipated to continue through Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, with a chance of rain on Tuesday evening. In the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, expect rain in the morning, with showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures in these regions will range from highs around 30 °C to lows dropping to 8 °C.

Nighttime temperatures are expected to vary significantly across different regions. In the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, and the Rift Valley, temperatures may drop below 10 °C.

Nairobi will experience temperatures ranging from 10°C to 15°C, while Embu, Machakos, Kiambu, Narok, Taita Taveta, Makueni, and parts of Laikipia will see similar temperature ranges.

In Tharaka Nithi, Nyeri, Meru, and Kajiado Counties, nighttime temperatures are anticipated to fall between 8°C and 10°C, with daytime highs reaching up to 27°C.

For the coastal region, Saturday will bring sunny intervals with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 29 °C to a minimum of 21 °C. On Sunday, cooler temperatures are expected, with lows of 11°C and highs reaching 30°C.
